WORLD SURF LEAGUE | 2013 - 2015
Working in partnership with the World Surf League (WSL) is a surfers dream comes true. There are over 11 international stops on the tour not including THE BIG WAVE TOUR and the logistics of both tours are pretty crazy, but at the same time at GoPro we managed to collaborate and create great surf content though out the WSL. In addition, to all the pre-roll assets, brand integrations and graphic treatments that come with a world tour, what I'm most proud of is our collaboration on GoPro Break breakdowns that show a unique look at some of the best surf spots in the world with the best surfers in the world. And the added branded integration of the WSL's GoPro Challenge that Anthony Walsh runs on-site with support from the WSL and GoPro Board teams. These two programs are what makes our partnership such a big win for surfers and for great content. With over 72 entries in only 4 events in 2015 it's easy to see why this global series is one to watch.
Role: Supervising Producer
GoPro Break Breakdowns
One of the highlights of GoPro's collaboration with the WLS, is the creation and publishing of the diverse GoPro Break breakdown integrations that the WSL produces throughout the world tour. All of these videos are shot 100% on GoPro with the world’s best surfers and on some of the best waves on earth. GoPro empowers and collaborates on these videos that play in the daily Web Broadcasts, on Network TV and throughout both Social Media platforms. Here are a few favorites.
The GoPro Challenge
The GoPro Challenge started in France as "The GoPro Expression Session." The idea was to give pro-surfers cameras for the entire period of the contest, so that they could use their GoPro's to shoot great surf content during practice surfs and win 10k in prize money. The athletes loved this idea, for the extra money, and because it showcased the very best content in a way that audiences could engage with as it happened. All of the content was versioned so athletes themselves can post to their social networks and tag accordingly. The next step was taking this idea to the next level with the WSL and getting audiences to get involved by voting on which video should win. Below are a few gems from the last three years and a more recent Big Wave winner from Kai Lenny.
