TOUR de FRANCE - 2015

The Tour de France organizer ASO and the Velon, a group of 11 of the best cycling teams joined forces with GoPro to bring fans never-before-seen content from inside the peloton. GoPro's US and European teams worked with 22 of the TdF teams helping to mount front and back cameras and producing content on multiple platforms throughout the 2015 Tour. Each day teams pushed on-board content to broadcast outlets in 190 different countries, posted it at GoPro events and delivered daily coverage to the GOTW CHANNEL, play-listing the content and distributing on a various of social media platforms. GoPro's primary goal was to train and empower the use of GoPro, but it snowballed as the teams became closer to the riders and the action though out the Tour and the result was they ended up producing some of the most amazing and revolutionary content in the history of the Tour. Check it out: Gizmodo's piece on: "If You Want to See The Future of TV, Watch Tour-de France."    Role: Supervising Producer

GoPro content lived in many forms and places during the Tour. Versions of the below videos were also shared on Social Media, including Tour de France, Velon, the actual cycling teams, and of course GoPro. This was a massive cross functional effort that provided many key learnings and new ways to retool our strategy of acquiring and publishing GoPro content.

Team ORICA GreenEDGE posted the above video in stage 3 of the Tour.  Hours later this video went viral to the tune of 1.9 million views. The strategy behind the decision to empower the team to post this video was to keep the story authentic, instead of pushing through GoPro or the Networks storylines.

HERO4 SESSIONS - LAUNCH

Four days into the Tour, GoPro released the Hero4 Sessions camera. All of our Production teams had to swap out every Hero4 Sliver with new cameras. The Hero4 Session cameras were the perfect road cycling camera - small, light, durable – often hidden from view on each bike.

We also added a last minute change to the firmware allowing a new mode to auto start. Now each team could set the camera in sleep mode and turn it on at a pre-set time to capture all the action without draining the battery life of the camera.

In preparation for the Hero4 Session camera, we had the opportunity to collaborate with Specialized in their Wind Tunnel to test out the new camera and any drag that may occur for the rider. We released the content on Tour along with a Specialized new racing bike.
